Class of 2012

Mark Weber, MPA ’12, and Alana Hitchcock, MPA ’12, launched a business, Trade Monkey, that will support small artisans and businesses in Northern Thailand by bringing handmade, socially responsible products to the world. (Submitted September 2013)

Class of 2010

Shawn Keohe, MPA’10, was elected as a Board Member to the Los Angeles County Employee Retirement Association (LACERA) Board of Retirement and Board of Investment, along with numerous committees. Shawn will be responsible for 40 billion dollars in investments along with oversight of a 60 million dollar operational budget. (Submitted September 2013)

Jia Ming Miao (MPA ’06, Ph.D.’10) is a United Nations official recruited through the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examinations. Dr. Miao recently moved from Geneva to Vienna. (Submitted november 2010)

Class of 2008

Lauren Gregor, MPA ’08, and husband, Chris, welcomed their son, Bennett Rhys Gregor, born on August 18, weighing 8lbs 15oz. (Submitted September 2013)

Beena Patel (MPP ’08) recently was hired as a Public Policy Specialist at B & D Consulting, the consulting/lobbying arm of Baker Daniels, LLC. She will be based in Washington, D.C. (Submitted Fall 2008)

Carlo Romero (MPP ’08) holds a position working on tax-exempt capital markets for J.P. Morgan in New York. In this role, Carlo group arranges financing for tax-exempt issuers including states, cities, hospitals, public utilities, and universities. (Submitted Fall 2008)

Abel Sun (MPA ’08) recently accepted a position at Deloitte Consulting LLP located in Sacramento, CA as Consultant. Abel recently was employed at U.S. Senate as Outreach Assistant. In this position, Abel will focus on public sector consulting. (Submitted August 2008)

Nick Williams (MPP ’08) is a consultant at NPO Solutions, a boutique consulting firm for non profits located in Studio City. (Submitted Fall 2008)

Class of 2007

Antonio Guerra (MPA ’07) recently accepted a position in the City of San Jose as a Budget and Policy Analyst for Mayor Chuck Reed. (Submitted September 2007)

Rana Lintotawela (MPP ’07) is managing relief programs in Sudan for Relief International. She is based in Los Angeles but travels frequently to Sudan to oversee program implementation. (Submitted Fall 2008)

Anne Neville (MPA ’07) recently accepted a position as a Global Leadership Fellow at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. There, her portfolio will cover Information and Communication Technology (ICT) policies across several countries. Previously, Anne was Assistant Secretary for Economic Development and Technology for the State of California Business, Transportation & Housing Agency. (Submitted December 2008)

Marque Richardson (BS ’07) is a realtor with Prudential California Realty in Cerritos, CA. Marque joined this select group of professionals associated to better serve his clients’ residential and investment real estate needs. (Submitted February 2008)

Kassandra Tribble (MPA ’07) recently announced her engagement to Frank Krifka. The wedding ceremony will take place in April 2009 in Southern California. Frank proposed on one knee in front of the Norton Simon Museum. (Submitted July 2008)

Class of 2006

Carl Alameda, MPA ’05; MPL ’06, and Bridget Lander were married on August 24, 2013 in Modesto, California at Saint Stanislaus Church. Carl and Bridget celebrated their honeymoon in Hawaii, where they happened to catch the USC Football season opener. (Submitted September 2013)

Bumsoo Lee (Ph.D. ’06) will be Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign. (Submitted March 2008)

JiYoung Park (Ph.D. ’06) will be Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the State University of New York/Buffalo. (Submitted March 2008)

Brissa Sotelo (MPP ’06) is engaged to Mauricio Vargas. They will be married in August 2009. Brissa is External Affairs Manager for Tesoro Refining and Marketing Company. (Submitted Fall 2008)

Lili Wang (Ph.D. ’07) has been appointed Assistant Professor at Arizona State University. (Submitted March 2008)

Class of 2005

Marc Abrams (MPA ’05) got married, moved to San Francisco, and has a daughter who just turned 1 in March 2010. Marc has worked in the online media/advertising business since graduating in 2005. He worked at McCann Worldgroup advertising agency (strategic analyst on Microsoft accounts), Yahoo (Engagement Manager), and currently AOL. In his current role at AOL, Marc is a Program/Product Sales manager for the West, Midwest, and Canada. He leads an international sales & account management team to monetize both AOL O&O and the network across multiple verticals. (Submitted April 2010)

Francisca Ferrar (MPP ’05) was married to Jaime Gonzalez on August 31, 2008; they honeymooned in Jamaica. Francisca is a Management & Program Analyst for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (Department of Homeland Security) in Laguna Niguel, CA. (Submitted Fall 2008)

John P. Keisler (MPA ’05) was appointed head of the Long Beach, CA Animal Care Services Bureau in November, following a nationwide search and his service as acting business manager of the city’s animal control department since April. In addition, John served as President of Municipal Management Association of Southern California for 2007-2008. (Submitted November 2008)

Class of 2004

Grace Gau Saunders (MRED ’04) and her husband, Tim, have moved to Dallas, Texas for his medical residency. They also had their first baby girl, Hennessey Carolina Gau Saunders, in July 2006. (Submitted November 2006)

Hyunsun Choi (MPDS ’98, Ph.D. ’04) has joined the faculty of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Florida as an assistant professor. His appointment begins in fall 2005. From 1999 to 2002, Choi worked as an administrator for USC Price’s Institute for Planning and Development Practitioners, where he recruited nearly 100 high-ranking officers from developing countries to attend the institute’s annual intensive two-week course. Also, Choi worked as a research associate for USC Civic and Community Relations for five years, where he completed some USC community researches and mapping. He is doing researches and teaching in the fields of community development, urban planning, policy, international development, and GIS. (Submitted February 2006)

Erica Jacquez-Santos (MPA ’04) has been appointed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina appointed to serve in her top level team of advisers as the First District Field Director effective July 2007. Erica now functions as Molina’s main community liaison and oversees Molina’s satellite offices in East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. (Submitted July 2007)

Meghan Loper (BS ’04) graduated in May 2005 from the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs, a nine-month, full-time, post-graduate leadership training program designed to introduce young public servants to all aspects of public affairs. During her tenure, she worked at Service Employees International Union, New Economics for Women, Raytheon Company, and a California state senator’s district office. She also worked on a California State Senate re-election campaign. In August 2005, she joined Majestic Realty Company in City of Industry as the company’s public policy coordinator and as program coordinator for the Majestic Realty Foundation, which seeks to improve quality of life by helping to build sustainable communities in the each of the company’s key geographic areas. Angela Pan (MPA ’04) is serving her second tour in the Foreign Service in Bejing, China. Her previous assignment for the Department of State was in Surabaya, Indonesia. (Submitted June 2008)

Andrew Compton (BS ’03) graduated from Cornell Law School in May 2007 and began an appointment at Latham & Watkins in New York City. During law school, Andrew was able to study abroad in Paris and Hong Kong, where he worked in Latham’s Hong Kong office. (Submitted August 2007)

Nicholas (Nick) Pinhey (MPA ’98, DPA ’03) was appointed to the position of Director of Public Works for the City of Modesto California effective January 2006. (Submitted May 2006)

Class of 2002

Corina Avalos McAleenan (MPP ’02) has worked for the Secret Service and is now a senior consultant with Deloitte Consulting, LLP’s Federal Practice in Washington, D.C. Her clients include the Executive Office of the President, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the House of Representatives. (Submitted February 2006)

Andrea Campbell (BS ’02) was recently promoted to Senior Account Manager with Consensus Inc., the largest Community Relations firm of its kind in the Western United States. Her clients include Caltrans, Los Angeles World Airports, Metro and the Port of Los Angeles. Her specialty is in mobilizing political and community action at the grassroots level. Melissa (Dettmer) Schild, BA ’98, MPA ’02, was selected to be the US Department of State’s representative to the 2013-2014 International Women’s Forum (IWF) Leadership Foundation Fellows Program. The program offers creative, multi-disciplinary training aimed at developing leadership and strategic management capabilities in areas such as negotiations, organization learning, marketing, global affairs, and the management of innovation and services. Michael Kawada, BS ’99; MHA ’02, and Mabel Phan married on August 24, 2013, at the Anthenaeum on the campus of California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA. (Submitted September 2013)

Tony Silbert (MPP ’02) is teaching a class on grantsmanship at USC Price, and has recently published three articles on the topic: “Grant Seeking in Tough Economic Times,” in Grant & Foundation Review on and “Funding Q&A: Questions you should ask potential grant writers” in Foundation & Corporate Grants Alert. Arcelia Arce (MPA ’01) works as a Project Manager for The Robert Group, and public affairs consulting firm in Los Angeles focusing on community outreach and media relations for public agencies. (Submitted October 2008)

Scott Lee (BS ’01) accepted a position on Capitol Hill as Counsel to U.S. Congresswoman Mazie Hirono (D – HI). He will serve as Representative Hirono’s Advisor on Finance, Education, and Labor. (Submitted March 2010)

Jeremy Scharfenberg (MPP ’01) is a Manager at ICF International specializing in global climate change, sustainable development, energy efficiency, and water resource management. He recently spent two years in Los Angeles developing and implementing an award winning ENERGY STAR Homes program for Southern California Edison. He currently works in Washington, D.C. and his project portfolio includes corporate environmental sustainability, the Green the U.S. Capitol Initiative, and supporting national greenhouse gas regulatory efforts. Jesse (Lefton) Zilberstein (MPA ’01) began working at The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles in 2005 as the Associate Director of the Real Estate and Construction Division. (Submitted February 2006)

Class of 2000

Karin Berger Stellar (MPA ’00) continues to love working as a Partner at Morris & Berger. She feels that finding the right people for leadership roles in the non-profit sector is rewarding and challenging. According to Karin, making a difference in organizations through facilitation of a search can be one of the most important decisions an organization can make. She feels honored and lucky to be able to be part of that process. She has also been serving on the Alumni Board and hopes to have more events and opportunities for alumni to become involved soon. Caroline (Wollner) Hohensee (MHA/MSG ’00), after five years of working and studying in Germany, will begin pursuing a Ph.D. in Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Fall of 2006. (Submitted June 2006)
