Class of 1979

Lynne Kastel Hsia (MPL ’79) has retired from Farmers Insurance after serving for 16 years as Director of Administration in the Claims Litigation department. She served in city and county government for 12 prior to Farmers. She is now working on her secondary teaching credential. (Submitted February 2007)

Mark Thompson (BS ’79) was elected First Vice Chairman of Community Board 6 (New York, NY). (Submitted February 2007)

Class of 1978

Julie Bulla (BS ’78) has been a land use planner in the public and private sectors in Ventura County, CA for over 27 years. She currently oversees the County Land Conservation Act Program (farmland preservation contracts). (Submitted July 2006)

Richard Russell (MPA ’78) was one of 14 in Kansas to receive the Legion of Honor from the International Order of DeMolay, November 2006. Mr. Russell retired from the government and military and is presently a flight instructor busy ensuring aviation safety. He is the past president of the Reno Chapter of the Air Force Association and has served as the senior enlisted advisor to the Secretary of Defense and the assistant secretary for the United States Air Force Reserve Affairs. Class of 1977

Jacqui Hood (’77, MPA ’77) graduated from Yale Law School in 1980 and is currently living in Vermont where she is active on numerous community boards and was recently elected a Justice of the Peace. She also continues to represent injured workers in a Southern California practice based in Orange County. (Submitted June 2006)

Class of 1975

Stan Rosenstein (MPA ’75) of Davis, CA has been appointed chief deputy director of programs for the Department of Health Services. He has served at the Department of Health Services (DHS) for over 30 years and currently serves as deputy director of medical care services. In this position, Rosenstein is the state’s top authority on California’s Medi-Cal Program. Previously, he was assistant deputy director from 1996 to 2003 and acting deputy director from 1999 to 2000 and in 2003 of medical care services. (Submitted June 2007)

Class of 1973

Robert Bernard (MPL ’73) currently works for the City of Long Beach. He also serves on the Manhattan Beach Planning Commission and Public Works Commission. (Submitted 2005)

Bob Kovitz (MPA ’73) has been appointed Governmental and Community Relations Administrator for Oro Valley, AZ. (Submitted January 2007)

Class of 1971

Richard Ide (MPA ’71) is a retired School Personnel Director. He still does interim director work and is currently serving in the Pasadena Unified School District. (Submitted June 2006)
