Class of 1989

Dr. Wilsie Bishop (MPA ’87, DPA ’89) was appointed Vice President for Health Affairs at Eastern Tennessee State University in June 2007, with the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Clinical & Rehabilitative Health Sciences reporting to her. She also continues as Chief Operating Officer of the University. (Submitted December 2007)

Michael Wright (MPL ’89) has joined Economics Research Associates as a Principal. In this capacity, he will focus on new business development in the area of real estate and public-private development. He will also provide consulting services for clients that include private developers, investors and public agencies involved in real estate development or asset management issues. Wright specialized in public-private projects in his previous positions at the Sedway Kotin Mouchly Group, Ernst & Young, Kosmont Partners, and Grubb & Ellis. (Submitted February 2006)

Class of 1988

Donna Munroe (Ph.D. Public Administration ’88) received the 2006 Sullivan Award for Excellence in Research from the College of Health and Human Sciences, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. Dr. Munroe is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing. Her research focuses on educational supports in gerontological nursing for undergraduate nursing students and organizational/agency systems for providing services to older adults in community-based settings. Victoria Valentine (’86, MRED ’01) has joined the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy as program specialist for METRANS Transportation Center, a joint program of USC and California State University, Long Beach. (Submitted November 2006)

Richard Narad (MPA ’85, DPA ’90) recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders. (Submitted January 2010)

Tony Russo (BS ’85) is group senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for The Irvine Company of Irvine, CA. In this role, Tony is responsible for overseeing the company’s federal, state and local corporate government relations. He also leads the Corporate Communications, Technology Advancement and Corporate Marketing groups. (Submitted August 2007)

Class of 1984

Dr. Paul W. Jones (BA ’81, MPA ’84), a physician/anesthesiologist, has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and Subspecialties Medicine at both the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy and at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Jones is Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Director of Anesthesia Services at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. (Submitted January 2011)

Barry Waite (’84, MPA ’86) was elected to the Lomita City Council. His day job is still with the city of Carson — a job that started as a temp position arranged by USC! (Submitted June 2006)

Yvette Sanchez-Owens (BS ’83) was recently appointed Commanding Officer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Scientific Investigation Division. (Submitted January 2007)

Osman Abdalla (Ph.D. ’82) is now an undersecretary in the Ministry of Aviation, Sudan. (Submitted February 2006)

Class of 1980

John R. Hook, DPA ’80, is the author of a new book, Adventuring: It Is Not Just For The Young and Strong. Through many true stories of all kinds of adventures, the book encourages readers to step out of their comfort zone to find their own adventure as a pathway to a richer life.
