The fifth annual Guardian Awards dinner gala was held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at USC Town and Gown. The evening evening included cocktails followed by dinner and the awards ceremony.

Edward Roski Edward P. Roski

Edward P. Roski, Jr. is chairman and chief executive officer of one of the oldest and largest privately held real estate companies in the United States. Ranked as the No. 1 Real Estate Developer in Los Angeles for over fifteen years, Majestic Realty Co. owns, manages, and leases in excess of 70,000,000 sq. ft. of property for clients across the nation. Mr. Roski is co-owner of the Los Angeles Kings and Lakers. Combining his love of sports with his passion for business, he played a critical role in developing the teams’ new arena. Majestic led the L.A. Arena Company’s efforts to create the STAPLES Center. Now a landmark in Downtown Los Angeles, STAPLES is considered the entertainment capital of the entertainment capital. A generous philanthropist, Mr. Roski personally commits his time and resources to countless civic organizations throughout Los Angeles.

Hilda Solis Hilda L. Solis

Secretary Hilda L. Solis was confirmed as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor on February 24, 2009. Prior to confirmation as Secretary of Labor, Secretary Solis represented the 32nd Congressional District in California, a position she held from 2001 through 2009. In the Congress, Solis’ priorities included expanding access to affordable health care, protecting the environment, and improving the lives of working families. A recognized leader on clean energy jobs, she authored the Green Jobs Act which provided funding for “green” collar job training for veterans, displaced workers, at risk youth, and individuals in families under 200 percent of the federal poverty line.

Bernard Parks Bernard C. Parks

Councilman, Eighth District, City of Los Angeles

Bernard C. Parks is serving his second term as Los Angeles City Councilmember for the Eighth Council District. One of the most densely populated areas in South Los Angeles, Parks represents over 250,000 people. During his first year in office he was appointed Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee and to the Coliseum Commission where he has led the charge to return a National Football League team to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Currently, Councilmember Parks is a member of six standing committees including Budget and Finance; he is also a member of the ad hoc committee on Economic Recovery and Reinvestment. The Councilman has a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility while at the same time; maintaining a high quality of constituent services for the Great Eighth.

Richard A. DeBeikes, Jr. is president of the diversified real estate corporation DeBeikes Investment Company. With a focus on mixed-use developments, DeBeikes Investment Company has specialized in reuse or in-fill projects, developing vacant or available land within otherwise built-up areas, creating innovative new spaces. With more than 30 years’ experience in real estate development, Dick has been a principal and/or owner for properties ranging from office and retail spaces to multi-family and master-planned residential developments. He was the president of the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors, having served in 2008-2009, and currently sits on the SPPD board of councilors and serves as chair of the school’s annual giving program.
