from SPPD Staff Reports
The USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development deeply mourns the loss of an exemplary – and beloved – member of its alumni community, Dr. Shahab Rabbani.
After a years-long battle with cancer, Dr. Rabbini has passed away. His funeral services took place on Friday, June 6, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
Dr. Rabbani was a graduate of the Doctor of Policy, Planning, and Development program at SPPD and also earned a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Nebraska.
He later served on the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), recently working as a senior project manager.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rabbini maintained a strong commitment to SPPD, contributing his time and effort as an adjunct professor in planning.
“Shahab was personally a delightful and generous person and a professionally skilled and accomplished planner,” said Prof. David Sloane. “He was excited to be a student, an alumnus, and a teacher at SPPD — we will miss him.”
Prof. Tridib Banerjee added, “He was a good friend of the school and a talented designer and graphic artist. He produced many dramatic images of urban scenes. I have two in my office and will cherish them always as a gift and a memory of a very good friend.”
In addition, Dr. Rabbini’s wife, Olga, formerly worked on the staff of the university’s student affairs office.
