SPPD Career Services – Parent Involvement Opportunities
The Office of Career Services provides career development programs and career advising for SPPD undergraduates, graduate students and our alumni. In addition, our career resources encompass opportunities in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. One of the important attributes of a USC education is access to the Trojan alumni network. The School of Policy, Planning, and Development has a long tradition of alumni support for its Career Services Programs. In addition, we encourage our parents to share their professional experiences with current students, and we ask for their participation in several possible ways:
Online Database of Jobs, Internships, and Fellowships – Career Services offers an online searchable database of internships, fellowships and job opportunities for all professional levels, designed exclusively for and accessed solely by SPPD students and alumni. This database is updated several times a week, and an average of 250 new announcements are available every month. If your business has a job vacancy, it can be entered into the SPPD Career Services database and available for viewing online 24 hours a day.
Internship/Residency Provider – Normally, undergraduates work 10-20 hours per week on a project or set of projects assigned to them by their internship supervisor. We ask that no more than 50% of an undergraduate student’s time be dedicated to clerical duties. Graduate students may work more hours depending on their degree programs. These students are qualified for and interested in working on substantive projects, and we ask that they do not spend more than 20% of their time on clerical duties. In addition to opportunities within the local community, many students seek summer internships outside of Southern California.
