USC Price School of Public Policy master of planning students presented their work in April at the 2013 National Planning Conference, held by the American Planning Association (APA), in Chicago. The APA annual conference is the primary meeting of practicing planners in the U.S., drawing some 6,000 attendees each year.
Bianca Shulaker presented her work on “Evaluating the impacts of park and greenway features, cues, and context on individual and community health,” during the student capstone session.
In addition, Peter Enzminger, Komal Panjwani, Michael Raley and Andre Sahakian also presented their joint project, “Sustainable Economic Development in a Historically Ethnic Community: Past Meets Future in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo.”
Their project – which was completed as part of the Planning and Economic Development Studio course taught by Price Adjunct faculty member Don Spivak – embodies an overall concept of “growing” Little Tokyo with its surrounding communities by enhancing its unique sense of place and its appeal as a pedestrian-friendly shopping and restaurant district, while it undergoes renewed residential developer interest that is reshaping the demographic composition.
