To be considered for admission to the Executive Master of Leadership degree program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience with progressively greater levels of responsibility in management or leadership positions.
In assessing an application, the admission committee evaluates:
- Past performance as evidenced by work experience, community service, and prior academic accomplishments
- Commitment to educational and career goals, as demonstrated particularly in the personal statement
- Ability to contribute to a collaborative learning environment
Specifically, EML admission criteria is based on:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or better
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with progressively greater levels of responsibility in management or leadership positions
- Strong recommendation letters from professional references
- Strong personal statement of purpose
Note: This degree program does not require the GRE or GMAT test scores
How to Apply
The following items are required in order to complete the application process:

1. USC Graduate Application
Candidates should apply online through the USC’s graduate online application system at https://app.applyyourself.com/AYApplicantLogin/fl_ApplicantLogin.asp?id=usc-grad. The online system allows you to electronically submit the application and most supplemental materials, such as your résumé, personal statement and letters of recommendation. Official transcripts cannot be submitted online and must be provided in their original, sealed envelope directly to the Price Recruitment and Admissions office.
2. Non-refundable Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $90 for all applicants is payable by credit card through the online Graduate Admission Application. Current USC students, alumni, full-time employees, faculty or dependents are exempt from the application fee.
3. Official Transcripts
Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. To expedite the processing of your application, please send all transcripts directly to the Price Recruitment and Admissions office. Print and complete the Transcript Cover Page for each college/university you have attended. Complete the entire form, sign it, and ask the registrar of each institute to attach it to your official transcript.
USC has begun to accept some forms of e-transcripts. Please check with the institution(s) you attended to see if they provide e-transcripts. Please note that we accept only e-transcripts that are submitted via the following methods:
- eSCRIP SAFE (Grad)
- eTranscriptCA (CCC)
- Texas Server (Grad)
- University to University
If your school does not provide transcripts through one of these methods, you must submit a hard copy of your transcripts.

A professional résumé will include professional and educational experience, as well as any outstanding achievements, honors, awards, and pertinent community or professional activities.
5. Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required. The letters should be from professional colleagues who are familiar with your (a) managerial performance and ability, and (b) motivation to conduct graduate work.
6. Personal Statement of Purpose
The personal statement should detail the applicant’s leadership experience, career aspirations, and how the completion of the EML degree with contribute to the realization of your career goals.
Note: Applicants may be requested to schedule and complete an interview as part of the application process. The interview is particularly helpful to explore the applicant’s professional background and alignment of professional goals with the EML program.

Tuition and Financial Support
For the 2016-17 academic year, each unit at USC costs $1,733 or $6,932 for a four-unit class. For each of the four core EML classes, a lab fee of $850.00 is applied that covers all book and learning materials and most meals during our on-campus sessions. The total for the entire program is approximately $52,000. This does not include other USC mandatory fees that may be imposed based on the specific class or academic year.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
A limited number of scholarships are available from the EML program. Tuition assistance may apply for USC faculty and staff. Please check with the USC Benefits Office.
The USC Financial Aid Office provides financial aid packages to U.S. citizens and eligible non-U.S. citizens, mainly in the form of graduate school loans. Additional information is available to prospective applicants by contacting the USC Financial Aid Office.
Tuition Payment Plan Option
The Office of Student Financial Services at USC provides students with information regarding student accounts, tuition payment plans, and payment options. The Student Financial Services Office may be reached at: (213) 740-7471 or by visiting their website.
USC offers a payment plan option. Students can enroll in an interest-free USC Payment Plan to pay for tuition, fees, and other miscellaneous university charges in monthly installments.
