Paul A. King, is the president and chief executive officer of the Pediatric Management Group (PMG), a physician practice management company responsible for the business management of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group (CHLAMG). CHLAMG was founded in 1984 and is the largest pediatric multi-specialty group practice in the United States, with 500 pediatric specialists available in 32 specialties for complex medical conditions. CHLAMG physicians are based at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, acknowledged for its leadership in pediatric and adolescent health.
Prior to his appointment at the Medical Group, Mr. King was responsible for the overall management of the specialty centers of excellence at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, including: the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases; the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism; the Children’s Orthopaedic Center; and The Heart Institute. Mr. King also provided oversight for the hospital’s 29 outpatient clinics and laboratories; the departments of pathology and radiology; quality systems management; the medical staff office; regulatory affairs; facilities; security; guest services; and the Emergency Transport System.
Prior to his appointment at Children’s Hospital Los Angles and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group, Mr. King was executive director of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, a world- renown orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine group in Los Angeles.
He was chief operating officer at the Samaritan Physicians Center in Phoenix, Arizona, which is now part of the Banner Health System. Mr. King worked with the Mayo Clinic in several management positions at its Scottsdale site at its inception, and prior to that appointment at the Clinic’s main facilities in Rochester, Minnesota.
He serves currently, or has served in the past, on the boards of the Martin Luther King Hospital; Children’s Home Care; the California Partnership for Children ; Anaheim Memorial Medical Center; the Los Angeles (now Saban) Free Clinic; and the University of Iowa Graduate Program for Healthcare Administration Alumni
Mr. King is a member of the Medical Group Management Association, having served as president of both the California Medical Group Management Association and the Los Angeles Medical Group Management Association. He also is a past president of BONES (now known as the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives).
Mr. King received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He received a master’s degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Iowa.
He is a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) by the American College of Medical Practice Executives which is the certification unit of the Medical Group Management Association. Mr. King is a resident of West Hills, California.
