MPA Class Scheduling
USC Price’s class scheduling is designed to accommodate both full and part-time students and are usually scheduled in one of three ways:
- Weekly full semester courses. These courses usually meet once a week in the afternoon or evening, for a 3.5 hour session, for the entire 16 week semester. These courses usually carry 4 units.
- Split semester courses. Classes meet weekly, once a week in the afternoon or evening, for a 3.5 hour session, for eight weeks. These courses usually carry 2 units. Often first half of the semester courses are paired with second half of the semester courses
- Intensive courses. Intensive courses are a unique and innovative method of course design offered by the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Students who are working professionals often find it easier to balance their study time with other outside demands by enrolling in intensives. Intensive courses are scheduled so that in-class time is concentrated into blocks of full day instruction, allowing you extensive time for independent study and practical application of what you have learned. The class design varies depending on the subject matter. Most instructors use a combination of short lectures, group projects, presentations, problem-solving exercises, outside speakers, and simulations. All courses also include weekly instructional time, although the particular format of this activity varies across individual courses. In many cases, this weekly contact consists of online activities, outside of the course meetings. (Please note that students may not schedule a regular weekly class that conflicts with the published dates of an intensive course.)
