USC Price School of Public Policy

MPP Program Learning Objectives

The mission of the Master of Public Policy program is to train practitioners in public policy to affect change and promote innovative solutions to the most critical issues facing society.

We achieve that mission through a strong curriculum that helps students develop analytic strengths in politics, economics, and quantitative analysis. Students are taught how to apply these skills to be successful in our rapidly changing, globalizing world. Finally, students engage clients directly though the Policy Analysis Practicum. This provides a terrific opportunity to apply “knowledge in action.”

The learning objectives of the Master of Public Policy are listed below:

  • Students will acquire the analytic skills in politics, economics, and quantitative analysis that can be applied to developing innovative solutions to a broad range of policy problems.
  • Students will develop expertise in a substantive policy field of interest that can apply in one’s career. These fields include education, environment, nonprofits and philanthropy, social justice, and health policy.
  • Students will learn leadership skills necessary to become agents of change to improve the quality of life for people and their communities, here and abroad.
