Severe and Fatal Child Abuse and Related Family Violence Seminar
Intervention – Referral – Investigation
November 15-19, 2010 – DCI, Los Angeles, CA
The goal of these special topic seminars is to facilitate an effective response to the needs of child abuse victims, and to assist individuals in making appropriate decisions regarding intervention, referral and investigation in child abuse cases.
The course is designed to meet the needs of the specialist, patrol officer, supervisor and juvenile function manager. The course is taught by qualified academic, medical, social service and law enforcement experts. Objectives include:
- participant recognition of the signs of abuse necessary for referral and/or subsequent intervention
- psychodynamics of Multidisciplinary Interview Teams (MDIT) in child abuse investigations
- exploration of the roles of agencies responsible for the reporting, investigation, referral, and treatment of abuse victims and offenders
- understanding of the psychodynamics of physical, mental and sexual aspects of child abuse

Interviewing Child Victims and Suspects Seminar/Advanced Child Abuse
December 6-10, 2010 – DCI, Los Angeles, CA
The goal of this course is to provide experienced juvenile child abuse investigative specialists with the skills and techniques necessary for interviewing young victims and witnesses (toddlers to latency) for the purpose of intervention, referral, investigation and civil/criminal prosecution. The efficient and productive interrogation of the child abuse offender will also be carefully considered.
The curriculum is designed to meet the critical interviewing and interrogation needs of the experienced juvenile child abuse investigative specialist, their supervisors and juvenile function managers within the justice system. Qualified experts from the academic, psychology, legal, social service and law enforcement professions will present information regarding:
