Sustainable Planning Track

Sustainable Planning Track

While the globe confronts climate change, local communities organize to ensure a high quality of life when faced with increased traffic, new skyscrapers or billboards, or environmental dangers. The people communities turn to for help in responding to both the global or local issues are urban planners. They work to find place-based solutions to land use issues and design more livable communities.

Students choosing this track will engage some of the world’s and society’s most difficult and important challenges, and look at them through the prism of transportation, economic development, the environment, and social equity. They will learn how to use geographic information systems to analyze issues, gain knowledge about participatory approaches to community change, and prepare to work with a wide range of other professionals to create communities for a healthy, sustainable society.
