Southers’ USA Today op-ed addresses extremist views on race, religion in America

July 11, 2016

USA Today ran commentary by Erroll Southers, Director of Homegrown Violent Extremism Studies for the Safe Communities Institute at the USC Price School of Public Policy, following the deaths of two black men at the hands of law enforcement and a rogue shooter who killed five police officers in Dallas. “We have yet to engage in a genuine national discussion about the violent ideologies rooted in extreme views of race and religion,” Southers said. “The time for avoidance and empty talk has passed.”
