Yamilett Medrano, a Master of Health Administration student at the USC Price School of Public Policy, was named one of only 10 recipients nationwide of the 2016 David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarship.
The program’s objective is to increase the number and quality of individuals trained in healthcare policy at the state and federal level by awarding deserving health policy students financial support to further their education. A $10,000 award is given to selected students who demonstrate the potential to succeed in the health policy field upon completion of their health master’s program.
The scholarship program – administered by the Washington, D.C.-based David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship – recognizes student excellence and achievement based on academic record and recommendations from faculty and colleagues, along with a commitment to health policy.
One of the highlights for the recipients is that each Winston Scholar will have the opportunity to attend a two-day health policy symposium in the fall in Washington, D.C.
“We are very excited to introduce another group of outstanding health policy scholars to the national health policy discussion,” David S. Abernethy, managing director of the Winston Health Policy Fellowship, said in a statement. “We are confident that each of these individuals from nine excellent graduate health policy programs will soon take their place as important contributors to the national health policy debate. We look forward to working with them now and in the future.”
The award commemorates the contributions of David A. Winston, who played a significant role in shaping the role of U.S. health policy for 20 years.
