LEAP Co- Chair – 2018-2020
Upon graduating from the University of Southern California in 1984, Rachel Clifford began her career in the Los Angeles office of the advertising agency Foote, Cone and Belding. After several years in their media department, she was presented with an opportunity to join USC’s Doheny Library development office as they embarked on a new capital campaign. While there, she also assisted in the creation of the Scripter Awards, an honor bestowed annually by the USC Libraries Board of Councilors in recognition of the year’s best adaptation of the printed word into film.
Following the successful completion of the capital campaign, Rachel decided to pursue a new challenge and joined The Walt Disney Company. Her focus was on marketing and product development for animated sound tracks, as well as audio and visual product for children featuring the Disney characters. She remained with Disney for four years before becoming Director of Marketing for the Time Warner “Kids” label, a venture that fell under the Warner Bros. music umbrella.
Motherhood became Rachel’s full time priority when her son, Robbie (USC Price student, Class of 2021), was born. From there she jumped into the world of volunteering for his schools. While he attended The Center for Early Education, she served as Chair of the Library Committee, Co-Chair of the annual Gala, and Co-Chair of the Book Fair. The family moved to Marin in 2008 where Robbie attended St. Mark’s School. There she served as the Co-Chair of the Book Fair for two years as well as on the Parent Council. When she returned to Los Angeles in 2011, Rachel continued her volunteerism as Co-Chair of Windward School’s Annual Fund Drive for three years with her husband Bob.
For the past five years Rachel has also been involved with Operation Mend, a privately funded organization that partners with the U.S. Military to heal the wounds of war by delivering leading-edge patient care, research, and education at no cost to those they treat. Rachel, Bob and Robbie have had the pleasure of serving as a “buddy family” for various wounded soldiers who are admitted into the program and receive their treatment at UCLA Medical Center. Rachel, Bob and Robbie are also involved with The Navy Seal Foundation and participate in their annual Joggin’ for Frogmen Race in San Diego.
