In George Washington’s Farewell Address in 1796, he warned of the inherent dangers that threatened to destroy the Union: regionalism, partisanship, and foreign entanglements. These issues have deep roots in our nation’s early years and remain critical today. This fall, our annual lecture will consider the adverse impacts of gerrymandering on the health and vitality of our nation and will feature a discussion exploring gerrymandering issues and solutions.

Established through a generous gift by Maribeth Borthwick ’73, who also serves as the Vice Regent for California of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, this lecture series explores the Father of our country’s lifelong accomplishments, providing a better understanding of him as a person, as well as his remarkable leadership, professional achievements, and lasting legacy.

Featuring:

Congressman Alan Lowenthal
United States Representative for California’s 47th congressional district

John Avlon
Senior Political Analyst and fill-in anchor for CNN

Ann Compton
Former news reporter and White House Correspondent for ABC News

David Daley
Journalist and author of RatF**ked

Professor David Sloane
USC Sol Price School of Public Policy
