Dear Price Community,
It is with the deepest sadness that I write to let you know of the passing of Bonnie Reiss, Director for the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy, after a heroic battle with cancer. For those who had the privilege to know Bonnie, it comes as no surprise that she met her challenge with courage, forthrightness, and heart.
Bonnie had a special, inclusive nature, believing everyone at the table was important. She brought out the best in people and inspired those around her with her infectious enthusiasm. Bonnie believed deeply in the “power of one,” noting that President Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa “inspired her to believe that one person can make a difference with a life well lived.” She demonstrated that belief in her own life, over and over.
I invite you to read the heartfelt tribute and watch the special video tribute from the USC Schwarzenegger Institute. Without question, Bonnie has made an indelible impact in the world and on the Price community.
Bonnie has always been and remains larger than life. The enormous spirit she brought to each of us, will stay with us in the years to come. Please join me in keeping her family, loved ones and all those who are grieving her loss in our thoughts and prayers.
Jack H. Knott, Dean
Throughout her life, Bonnie Reiss has been a force for good, directing her considerable energy, passion and intelligence to advocate for children, education, the environment and political reform. During her time as the Global Director of the USC Schwarzenegger Institute at the Price School of Public Policy, Bonnie’s work and spirit have left an indelible imprint not just on the Institute and School, but on every student, staff and faculty member she has worked with.
To honor her and to inspire Price students to follow her example as a visionary leader, we have established the Bonnie Reiss Scholarship, which will be awarded every year to a deserving student who is committed to pursuing a life of public service. Learn more about Bonnie Reiss Scholarship »
