Janet V. Denhardt is Chester A. Newland Professor of Public Administration at the USC Price School of Public Policy. She was previously Professor and Director of the Doctoral Program in School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University. Dr. Denhardt is a member of the prestigious National Academy of Public Administration, the field’s equivalent of the National Academy of Science. She is the 2013 recipient of Charles Levine Award, given by American Society of Public Administration and the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) to recognize a public administration faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in three major areas of the field of teaching, research and service to the wider community.
Dr. Denhardt has published five books, including The Dance of Leadership, The New Public Service, Managing Human Behavior in Public and Nonprofit Organizations, Public Administration: An Action Orientation, and Street Level Leadership. Several of these are in multiple editions and translations. She has also published numerous articles in professional journals, primarily in the areas of citizen engagement, leadership, and governance. She is a native of Seattle, Washington and she earned her doctorate in public administration from the University of Southern California.
