The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has named Richard Green, director of the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate, as a senior adviser for housing finance. He will begin his one-year appointment July 1.
Green holds the Lusk Chair in Real Estate and is a professor in the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and the Marshall School of Business.
“After dedicating my career to the study of housing and providing research and information intended to guide our country’s housing policy, it is an honor to be invited to the front lines of our nation’s effort to provide safe, affordable housing to all,” Green said.
Green, who served as principal economist and director of financial strategy and policy analysis at Freddie Mac earlier in his career, will advise HUD on creating a sustainable housing system that can withstand market disruptions, such as the one that occurred during the financial crisis of 2008.
He will also work within HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research on a range of housing finance research issues. He will participate in cross-agency housing groups, including the weekly housing deputies meetings at the White House and the rental housing policy working group.
Green earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned a degree in economics from Harvard University.
USC Price Professor Raphael Bostic, director of the USC Bedrosian Center on Governance and former assistant HUD secretary, has been appointed interim director of the USC Lusk Center.
