Biographical sketch
T.J. McCarthy is an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California. He is an empirical microeconomist with primary interests in health, labor, and public economics. His dissertation focused on the effects of education and military service on individuals’ marital prospects and long-term health, and he has collaborated with researchers at the UC Davis Medical Center on studies of treatments for breast cancer and chronic illness. Topics on Dr. McCarthy’s current research agenda include the determinants and consequences of childhood obesity, long-term effects of the childhood home environment, intergenerational transmission of education and health, and interdisciplinary applications of economic theory (particularly game theory) and quantitative methods.
