Biographical sketch

T.J. McCarthy is an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California. His primary interests are in applied microeconomics, particularly labor, health and public economics. His research within the field of economics has focused on the effects of education and military service on individuals’ marital prospects and long-term health, and he has collaborated on interdisciplinary work with researchers at the UC Davis Medical Center, USC Keck School of Medicine, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on a variety of topics ranging from breast cancer risk reduction to the use of antibiotics in treating children with ear infections. McCarthy teaches courses in microeconomics, public finance, cost-benefit analysis, and applied econometrics.
