“Lt. Col. Vindman’s experience in Russia and Ukraine and his inside knowledge make him ideally suited to address the most challenging national security threats of our time,” said Dana Goldman, dean of USC Price. “We are honored to have him as our commencement speaker, and I know his message about integrity in public service will resonate with our graduates.”

Vindman will address more than 6,000 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students and their families at The Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall on May 13, 2022. The event will also be live streamed.

“I have great respect for the USC Price School and its goal of providing education and research that leads to better policy decisions,” Vindman said. “With the U.S. and other liberal democracies facing multiple challenges, it is more important than ever that we have leaders who are able to navigate complex issues and the policies to address them.”

Vindman’s remarks will come at a pivotal time in global policy. Already an accomplished scholar and diplomat, Vindman became a household name in 2019 when his testimony during former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial riveted the nation. Today, Vindman serves as an expert resource – especially as the public seeks to understand the growing conflict in Ukraine.

Vindman, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, was most recently the director for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Russia on the White House’s National Security Council. Previously, he served as the political-military affairs officer for Russia for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as an attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. While on the Joint Staff, he authored the National Military Strategy Russia Annex and the Global Campaign for Russia.

He is currently a doctoral student and senior fellow of the Foreign Policy Institute at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Pritzker Military Fellow at the Lawfare Institute, senior advisor to VoteVets, board member for the Renew Democracy Initiative, and the author of The New York Times bestselling memoir, Here, Right Matters.
