Leaders of the world’s most powerful nations are discussing climate change solutions at COP26, and the USC Price School of Public Policy is part of the conversation. Provost Professor Wändi Bruine de Bruin presented at the event, also known as the United Nations Climate Change Conference. On Nov. 5, Bruine de Bruin was part of a virtual panel discussing climate communications where she described how the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) can help the general public understand its reports.

Bruine de Bruin is known for her work in this arena; in August 2021, she co-authored a report about the public’s understanding of climate change terminology alongside Lila Rabinovich, Kate Weber, Marianna Babboni, Monica Dean and Lance Ignon. The project was a collaboration between USC Dornsife and the United Nations Foundation, and was supported by the USC Dornsife Public Exchange.
“Even people who are concerned about climate change found it difficult to interpret climate change terminology that is commonly used in climate change communications,” she said of the study’s findings. These are people who presumably would want to engage with climate change communications and learn more about climate change.”
