Lieutenant Dale Drummond

Biography

Lieutenant Dale Drummond is a native of Southern California, having grown up in Ventura County. After obtaining an Associate of Arts degree from Moorpark College, Lieutenant Drummond moved to Yosemite National Park, where he began working in the customer service field. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Melissa, who is now his wife of over 18 years. Lt. Drummond has always felt a strong calling to public service, particularly in law enforcement, motivated by the legacy of his father and sister, both of whom served in the field before him.

In 2007, Lt. Drummond was hired by the Beverly Hills Police Department and attended the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy. Throughout his nearly 18-year career with the department, he has taken on various roles, including member of the DUI Team, Bike Team, Accident Investigator, and Field Training Officer.

In 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to Patrol, where he supervised the Field Training Program. In 2024, he was further promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and is currently assigned to Patrol while also managing the Field Training Program.

Lieutenant Drummond has dedicated his law enforcement career to improving roadway safety and ensuring impaired drivers are held accountable. His commitment to protecting the community has earned him the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Award for Excellence in DUI Enforcement for five consecutive years, highlighting his dedication and impact. In 2013, he received the prestigious MADD California Hero Award, one of the highest recognitions for law enforcement officers in the fight against impaired driving. This award is reserved for those who exceed expectations in both apprehending drunk drivers and educating the public about the devastating effects of this violent crime.

Eager to leave a lasting impact on roadway safety, Lt. Drummond became a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) as well as a DRE Instructor, aiming to equip future officers with the skills needed to detect and remove impaired drivers before they can cause harm. Over the past 15 years, he has trained countless officers in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and Drug Recognition Expert courses, ensuring the next generation of law enforcement officers continues his mission.

In addition to his educational and enforcement efforts, Lt. Drummond’s expertise has been vital in securing justice for victims of fatal traffic crashes. His investigative skills have led to numerous successful arrests and prosecutions, providing closure for families affected by these tragedies. One particularly complex case was so impactful that he was invited to present it at both the Institute of Police Technology and Management Traffic Safety Conference and the Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council Conference in Missouri.

He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social and Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration.
