Biography
Phil Dalton is a Professor of Practice of Health Management and Policy at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Professor Dalton teaches courses and advises students in the Master of Health Administration (MHA) and Executive Master of Health Administration (EMHA) degree programs, as well as in Price’s undergraduate track in Health Policy and Management.
He most recently served as a Managing Principal for Vizient, Inc. a large, health care organization supported by more than 1,500 member nonprofit hospitals. Prior to this position, he was the founder, President and CEO of Medical Development Specialists, a national health care consulting firm. He also has served as President of a Healthcare Venture company, Senior Vice President in healthcare systems and as an executive for national consulting firms providing strategic and business advisory services to hospitals and health care systems. Dalton’s expertise includes strategic planning and management of healthcare organizations, population health, hospital/physician alignment strategies, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions. He has frequently evaluated hospital acquisitions and sales for client hospitals and the Office of the California Attorney General. He frequently speaks at healthcare conferences and authors articles on industry trends.
He holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University.
