Year after year, one of the top issues on the minds of voters is the economy. That was especially true in the most recent presidential election, when concerns about inflation helped President Donald Trump retake the White House.
Following the election, pollster Mark Baldassare – Senior Fellow at the USC Price School’s Bedrosian Center on Governance – surveyed Californians to better understand their views on the economy. The poll, conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California, where Baldassare is the survey director, reveals that Golden State residents are still pessimistic about the economic future – for both the next 12 months and for today’s children.
“Despite the fact that a lot of economic indicators feel good, a lot of Californians don’t feel so good about the economy as it relates to them,” Baldassare notes in the video above. “I think when people are evaluating the economy and the economic situation, they’re hoping that things are going to get better instead of just staying the same. And that, in many ways, is what’s driving dissatisfaction with government policy and with the economy in general right now.
