Biography

Barry is a city council member for the City of Lomita and serves on more boards and commissions than he’d like to add up. For fun, he is an active barbershop singer with the South Bay Coastliners chorus and performs regularly in the community.

Along with bachelor’s degrees in French and public affairs from USC, he has a master’s degree in public administration from USC and a GIS certificate from Cal State Long Beach. He has taught a number of courses in the GIS certificate program at CSULB and has been a lecturer for many years with CSUDH for officials from China learning about redevelopment, environmental management, water resources, and brownfields.

He is the co-author of “The GIS Guide for Local Government,” published by the International City and County Management Association. More recently, he and his co-professor, Bonnie Shrewsbury, authored “Top 20 Essential Skills for ArcGIS Pro” with Esri Press. They have been teaching at USC since 2007.
