Biography

T.J. McCarthy is a Professor (Teaching) in the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California. His primary interests are in quantitative methods and applied microeconomics, particularly labor, health and public economics. He teaches courses in applied econometrics, microeconomics, and cost-benefit analysis. His research has included work in health, education, veterans policy, and labor economics, and he has collaborated on interdisciplinary projects with medical researchers on topics ranging from breast cancer risk reduction to the use of antibiotics in treating children with ear infections. He has been the recipient of several teaching, research, and service awards, including the USC Price Robert Biller Outstanding Faculty Award, USC Academic Senate Distinguished Faculty Service Award, the Military Family Research Institute’s Excellence in Research on Military and Veteran Families Award, USC Price GPAC Outstanding Professor of the Year Award, USC Price MHA Faculty of the Year Award, and USC Price MPP Mentor of the Year Award.
